A glimpse into NEA Garden

A glimpse into NEA Garden’s natural wonderland

Angela, our Volunteer Coordinator, visited the NEA Garden at the end of June. Here are a few words and some pictures from her visit.

Meandering through the vibrant, luscious, and colourful walkway; on the left bumbling bees, curious insects, and newly opened flowers, all basking in the sun; on the right, a long blue wall with another kind of newness unfolding.

Even amongst a building site, nature does its thing, wherever it is allowed to thrive. Our garden is a great example of nature being encouraged to thrive, even though we have given half of the garden to the redevelopment. This will be returned to NEA once the building works have finished, and the garden team are planning what will go into this space, and to refresh the whole garden generally.

My walk was really inspiring and very beautiful. I enjoy popping into the garden on a Tuesday and would encourage everyone to pop along and find our biodiverse wonderland. Our gardening group meets every Tuesday and Thursday 1.30pm– 4pm, and we are always delighted to welcome new members. You can drop us an email at garden@northedinburgharts.co.uk if you have any questions.  (Please note there will be no sessions on Thursday 17 August & Tuesday 22 August.)

If you have availability and would like to share your time or skills on a regular basis, we are always looking for volunteers to help out. If you are interested in volunteering with our garden project, please email volunteer_coordinator@northedinburgharts.co.uk in the first instance to register your interest.

As the photos show, the palette available to artists, makers and creators is limitless in our wee NEA garden. If you would like to come and paint or create you would be very welcome. There are so many beautiful colours, textures, smells… the garden in exploding with inspiration, as is our new build on the other side of the wall.

We’d love to see what you could help us create, and how we could help you create!

It’s an exciting time, so watch this space and get involved… As they say, to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.
