Film Friday – creative workshop & social (All welcome)

Friday 5 July 5, 11am – 12.30pm at West Pilton Neighbourhood Centre

Join Art For Grown Ups’ creative workshop and social. We’ll be experimenting with archive footage from the area as well as our own video clips, and sharing ideas and ambitions for the 2025 North Edinburgh Film Festival. All are welcome.

This is the second Film Friday and we’re hoping to gather many more local people in the creating, planning and developing of the film festival as we go along. For more information, please email alice.betts@northedinburgharts.co.uk

Interested in photography? Come along to this free community photography group to get hints and tips from professional photographer Olly Benton on taking high quality photos on your camera and phone. No experience necessary.

Interested in organising events and art projects? Want to have your say about activities on offer in North Edinburgh and be a part of the North Edinburgh Arts creative programme? 

North Edinburgh Arts and Imaginate will be joined by Jamie from Folk Film Gathering for a taster workshop all about Film Festivals! 

Jamie will share how a film festival programme gets put together. The group will watch a selection of short films made by local children and young people, and together will select which films they’d like to be shown at an event as part of the Folk Film Gathering taking place with NEA at WPNC in August.

What does it mean to be a man today? Robbie (44) and Alfie (10) meet on an extraordinary building site at dawn. Together they dance and play, trying to make sense of it all.

Directed by Eoin McKenzie in collaboration with Robbie Synge and young local performer Alfie, this is a funny and tender new contemporary dance performance for audiences aged 8+ that considers familiar and unexpected ideas about masculinity and friendship.

Travelling Gallery – Where We Stand 

Thursday 15 August, 10am – 4pm 

West Pilton Neighbourhood Centre

The exhibition will tell the stories and achievements of the pioneers of community ownership, a movement that has transformed Scotland, and features a new work by Francia Boakye, commissioned by NEA. 

Scotland’s land has long been uniquely concentrated in the hands of private landowners. Where We Stand will highlight six new artworks that reflect how ordinary communities secured ownership of the land where they live, and created something transformational. The exhibits include original artworks in sculpture and film, by Virginia Hutchison, Richard Bracken and Colin Tennant & Saskia Coulson. There will be new commissions – funded through Creative Scotland - by Francia Boakye, Kate O’Shea, and Emma Duncan, Jan Little & Helen Walsh, supported by The Bothy Project. 


Play Rangers

Every Friday afternoon

  • 3.15pm-5pm in Muirhouse Park 
  • 12.30pm-2.15pm in West Pilton Park 

For children ages 5+ // FREE // drop in

Come and join us for creative outdoor play in local parks on Friday afternoons. The sessions are free for local children ages 5+, and snack will be provided. No booking is required, simply drop in.


Family Badminton (Ages 7+)

Mondays 4:30pm – 7:30pm at West Pilton Neighbourhood Centre 

£1 adult NEA member; £2 adult non member // drop in

A family friendly session held weekly at West Pilton Neighbourhood Centre. No experience needed, and equipment is provided. Come along, get fit and have fun! On every Monday throughout the Summer. 


Knit and Natter (Adults only)

Tuesdays 10am – 12pm at West Pilton Neighbourhood Centre 

On every Tuesday throughout the summer, apart from 2 July and 6 August. 

A free, friendly group that come together every Tuesday to enjoy knitting, a cuppa and a chat. Tea, coffee, biscuits are provided. No need to book in advance, simply drop in!


Carpet Bowls (Ages 16+)

Tuesdays 1:30pm – 2:45pm at West Pilton Neighbourhood Centre 

£1 adult NEA member; £2 adult non member // drop in

On every Tuesday throughout the summer, apart from 2 July and 6 August. 

Learn how to play a new sport with a welcoming group of people in your local community! No experience needed, and all equipment provided. 


Cycling Group (Ages 8+)

Wednesdays 10am – 11:30am, meeting at 67 Pennywell Road.

Starting on Wednesday 24 July

A new, family friendly cycling group led by two cycle leaders around the local area. Children must be accompanied by an adult and aged 8+. Booking is essential via Eventbrite and limited bikes are available to borrow.  


Walking Group (All ages)

Thursdays 10am – 11:30am, meeting at Greggs on Pennywell Road.  

On every Thursday throughout the summer, apart from 4 and 11 July.  

Explore your local area and meet people in your community at our weekly walking group. All ages welcome, and children must be accompanied by an adult.  


Archery Group (Ages 7+)

Fridays 2:30pm- 3:15pm 

£3 adults, £2 kids // drop in

Archery is cancelled on 5, 12 and 19 July, and will resume on 26 July. 

Join our community archery group (North Edinburgh Archers) and learn a fun new skill! Qualified archery instructors will be on hand to share their knowledge and all equipment is provided. 


Dr Bike in partnership with Fresh Start

Wednesdays 3, 10, 17 and 24 July, 2pm – 4:30pm (drop in)

Fresh Start Community Garden, Inchgarvie Court, Ferry Road Drive, EH4 4DA 

Is your bike in need of a check up or repair? Bring it along to Fresh Start and have it repaired for free by Dr Bike experts. No need to book your place in advance – simply drop in! This is a free service for local residents living in North Edinburgh.

  • Please note that guitar tuition sessions are cancelled for the duration of the summer holidays. 
  • We’ll soon be announcing dates for Creative Summer Workshops for Families with Tortoise in a Nutshell. Come and join our fun crafts/drama workshops, exploring creativity and the thrill of imagination! These workshops are designed for families with children up to 12 years old. More details coming soon!
