Sustainability

Read more about what we do

NEA recognises that our operations and actions have an environmental impact that contributes to the climate emergency. We are committed to reducing this impact and support our community to do the same. We recognise that whilst our community has a lower-than-average carbon footprint, it will be amongst those most impacted by climate change, and acknowledge we have a role to play in supporting a Just Transition for North Edinburgh.

Asset 3

Our main focus is to embed sustainability in our organisational culture and to promote sustainable changes.  We want to encourage people to be conscious about their actions, their environmental impact and to extend environmental best practices beyond our premises. For example, our Green Projects (Garden and Community Shed) provide examples of sustainability in practice, and our Creative Projects have sustainability at the core of their work (e.g, upcycling and using found materials).

We have a Sustainability Policy and Strategy which is reviewed regularly. This outlines our environmental best practices and sustainability targets, and applies to everyone who works, volunteers or participates in the work of NEA (such as our tenants and freelancers). We have a Carbon Management plan to monitor our CO2 emissions and we are a member of Creative Carbon Scotland’s Green Arts Initiative, a proactive network which aims to build and maintain a Scottish green arts community.
