NEA runs a dynamic year-round programme of multi-arts activities and events for local adults, children, young people and families, which includes regular arts groups and projects, creative learning and skill-building opportunities, live performances, film screenings, and festivals. We actively work to democratise culture and to provide high quality artistic experiences that stimulate expression and dialogue, entertain and free the imagination within a welcoming, open and flexible environment.
We invite Artists to spend time ‘in residence’ at NEA who are interested in working within our building and out-and-about across the local area: responding to, reflecting on and exploring our community, place and purpose.
Our Creative Programme aims to engage the diverse community of people local to North Edinburgh Arts, to be relevant to their needs and interests, so they may enjoy NEA’s offer and contribute to the vibrance of our venue and the community.
We welcome projects that challenge norms, promote debate, and encourage discussion. NEA is a space for social thinking and creative risk-taking, where complexities, ambiguities and uncertainties can be shared and explored in a supportive space. Tension, with trust and kindness, is to be welcomed.
We want to make a positive difference to our local community but recognise the importance of connecting with communities like ours across the city, country and further afield, facing similar inequalities and socio-economic barriers to accessing the arts. We participate in and lead on city-wide and national partnerships and networks; sharing, learning, collaborating and helping build opportunities and shape a more inclusive, equitable society.
