We can’t believe it’s already been a whole year since we opened the doors of our refurbished venue for the very first time. What a year it has been.
On 23 April 2025, we welcomed you in with ‘Heroin ‘Uncut’ – the first screening in more than 40 years of Peter Carr’s trilogy of films made right here in North Edinburgh in 1983. Three nights, three films, and some unforgettable conversations with Irvine Welsh, Dr Roy Robertson and Peter Carr himself. It felt like a meaningful way to begin again, sharing stories of this community, in our newly refurbished home. Thanks to our friends Screen Education Edinburgh, Neil Cooper, Zoe Black, Tora Burns, and Sarah Drummond for helping us kick things off in style.
And since then? Our venue has been buzzing. Around a thousand people come through our doors every week, plenty familiar faces and new visitors too. Across 51 opening hours per week, there are classes, events, rehearsals, exhibitions, and space to come together, create, relax, and work. The café is serving about 125 orders daily, but there is always room for some more.
We’re grateful for every single person that comes through our doors, and makes this building feel less like a venue and more like a place that belongs to the North Edinburgh community. Here’s to year one, and we can’t wait to see what the second year has in store!
