Solidarity Wins Exhibition

A diverse group of people pose together inside the grand hall of the National Galleries of Scotland: Portrait Gallery, decorated with Christmas garlands and a tall Christmas tree. Many people raise their fists in a gesture of solidarity, smiling and facing the camera. The group includes people of different ages and abilities, gathered closely in a celebratory, collective moment.

Solidarity Wins: Creative Resistance in North Edinburgh

We loved welcoming so many of you to the National Galleries of Scotland: Portrait Gallery on Tuesday 25 November for the launch of Solidarity Wins: Creative Resistance in North Edinburgh. It was a joyful afternoon of food, protest song, conversation and hands-on creativity – and a truly powerful reminder of what happens when community comes together.

The exhibition brings together artworks, archive films and research created and gathered by NEA’s Art for Grown Ups and Royston Wardieburn Community Centre’s Arts & Culture Group, exploring local activism, creativity and solidarity in North Edinburgh. Inspired by Resistance at Modern Two, local people explored personal and collective stories through collages, prints, zines, and even a specially penned protest song, A Song for Greater Pilton.

Created as part of Art for Grown Ups’ Creative Resistance Project, in collaboration with National Galleries of Scotland, Royston Wardieburn Community Centre, with thanks to the Granton Archive Project, Community Wellbeing Collective and Scottish Screen Edinburgh.

The Solidarity Wins: Creative Resistance in North Edinburgh exhibition at the Portrait Gallery is open until 30 April 2026.

NEA’s Art For Grown Ups project is supported by Creative Scotland
