Out and about
In addition to managing the North Edinburgh Arts building, we actively support and deliver a range of creative projects that extend beyond our doors. These initiatives take place outdoors or are designed to enhance local public spaces, bringing creativity directly to the heart of our community.
Scran Fir Bees
The Scran Fir Bees project, led by Artist Natalie Taylor, was seeded in spring 2022 with annual bee-friendly Scottish wildflowers.
The message, SCRAN FIR BEES written in wildflowers is both an ecological intervention and a statement about the situation. By planting ‘scran’, or food for bees, we are helping not only them but also ourselves. Pollinators such as bees, butterflies, hoverflies, and other insects are directly involved in producing around a third of our crops by flying from flower to flower and spreading their pollen around. And yet sadly the insect population is dropping fast due to conventional farming practices and the herbicides and insecticides that we spray in our gardens and parks.
Facililated by North Edinburgh Arts, enabled by the Edinburgh City Council Housing service, and funded by the University of Edinburgh’s Community Micro-Grant and The National Lottery: Together For Our Planet Fund.

Pennywell Public Art Trail
The Pennywell Public Art Trail is a creative art project, led by Artists-in-Residence Fraser Gray and Eva Paredes, which will create a lasting legacy that reflects the richness of our local area.
As part of this project, Eva and Fraser will create a series of public artworks for the Pennywell community. This is expected to be 6+ works that form an art trail around the new development to encourage active travel between the sites.
Take a look at a video featuring the first mural created as part of this project.
This project is delivered with North Edinburgh Arts, supported by the Edinburgh Council and funded by Urban Union.
