SUMMARY:Saturday Arts & Dance
DESCRIPTION:Weekly Arts & Dance sessions for local children (Ages 5 – 12)\nSaturdays\, 10.30am – 12.30pm \nTerm time\, weekly excluding school holidays. Starting Saturday 29 August 2026 \nFree but registration is required.  \nCOMPLETE THIS ONLINE FORM to register your child for Saturday Arts & Dance sessions. Please note there is no need to complete this form again if you have already done it previously. \nPlaces at each session are available on a first-come\, first served basis \n  \nAbout Saturday Arts and Dance:\nThe Saturday Arts and Dance programme allows children to take part in a relaxed morning of art-making\, games\, movement and play activities. \nThe art sessions use materials that can often be found at home\, offering simple techniques that can easily be replicated at low or no cost. \nOur dance sessions introduce children to new dance and movement techniques\, incorporating play\, props and games\, allowing them to learn at their own pace. \nPlease get in touch if you have any questions or feel it would be helpful to discuss your child’s needs with us before they attend. You can also note this on the registration form. \nThe classes are split into two age groups\, 5-7 years and 8-12 years. Children in both ages groups are encouraged and supported to participate in the arts and dance activities during the morning. \nHealthy snacks are provided. If your child has specific dietary needs or allergies please note this on the registration form. \n  \nThe sessions will involve movement\, exploring and art making indoors (and sometimes outdoors\, weather permitting)\, so please: \n\nWear comfortable clothes and layers that you don’t mind getting messy.\nWear footwear that allows you to be active and move.\nBring a warm/waterproof outer layer\, just in case we make it outdoors!\n\n  \nPlease note: \n\nWe encourage children to take part and be active members of the group by helping out\, being kind and supportive of each other;\nWe encourage families to help make Arts & Dance a ‘technology free zone’. Where possible\, we would kindly ask children to put away mobile phones or devices during the sessions\, unless needed to support participation or for emergencies. Our team may use their devices sometimes during sessions – e.g. to take photos\, access resources\, or help with registration but we will aim to keep this to a minimum.\n\nThank you for your understanding! If you have any questions or concerns please get in touch. \n  \nImportant information: \n\nThese sessions are aimed at children ages 5-12 living in the local community (priority areas of Muirhouse\, Pilton\, Granton and Drylaw).\nPriority will be given to local community members and NEA Members. To find out more about our Membership Scheme and to sign up\, visit our website Membership page.\nDue to high demand\, places at each session are not reserved\, but available on a first-come\, first served basis.\nCompleting the online registration form does not guarantee a place at every session.\nWe recommend arriving in good time for the start of the session to avoid disappointment.\nWe aim to make sessions accessible but we are not currently able to provide 1:1 support. If you think your child may require 1:1 support (they may already receive 1:1 support at school\, for example)\, please get in touch with us to discuss their needs further before completing the online registration form.\n\n  \nArts & Dance is made possible through continued support from our funder KPE4.

SUMMARY:THE FIRST WOMEN: Film screening & food sharing
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 8 October\nDoors open & food sharing from 5.30pm (soup & bread served)\nScreening starts: 6pm\nTickets: £2 (NEA Members); £4 (General Admission)\nBOOK ONLINE\nWe’re excited about this special cinema event celebrating community football\, with a particular focus on women football. \nWe’ll be screening The First Women\, a beautiful\, feature-length documentary following the Brazilian national women’s team\, a film full of inspiring characters\, friendship\, and community spirit. \nJoin us for this special screening – connecting generations through a shared love of sport. \nGet involved: We’d love to hear from you if you’d like to take part in a panel discussion\, or if you have photos\, memories\, or memorabilia to share about women and girls’ football in North Edinburgh. \nGet in touch to find out more or to get involved! \nEmail alice.betts@northedinbrugharts.co.uk \nABOUT THE FILM: THE FIRST WOMEN\nDirected by Adriana Yañez \nLength: 1 hour 18 mins \nLanguage: Portuguese  with English subtitles \nThe First Women uncovers the untold stories of the pioneering women who formed Brazil’s first national women’s soccer team. Although women were legally barred from playing soccer until 1979\, these trailblazers broke barriers and represented Brazil internationally throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Yet\, despite their achievements\, they received little public recognition or reward. \nToday\, these former athletes are in their 60s and live in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro. To support themselves\, they work as street vendors\, Uber drivers\, construction workers\, and soccer coaches in community programs. Nevertheless\, their passion for the game endures. They gather to play soccer\, coach young players\, and watch Brazil’s matches on television\, sharing moments of camaraderie and resilience. \nBy blending personal stories with historical context\, Adriana Yañez‘s documentary offers a moving tribute to their strength and unity. Ultimately\, it challenges the erasure of their contributions in a country renowned for its football excellence. \nThis screening is part of The Spanish Film Club series\, organised by IberoDocs in collaboration with Edinburgh Council and was made possible with the support of Pragda\, SPAIN arts & culture\, and the Secretary of State for Culture of Spain \nThis documentary carries an official 12 age rating due to mild inappropriate language and thematic elements\, but some festival or special screenings have also been rated the film as General / Universal.
